GTA 6 first mission: Lucia’s prologue, prison and the start of the story
What we know about GTA 6’s first mission: Lucia’s prison prologue, her call to Jason, early missions and the origin of the plane rumor.

The most detailed account of what GTA 6’s first mission might look like comes from the Prologue 1 leak. It describes a prison sequence with Lucia, a flashback to her life before her arrest and the player’s first actions. The recording was posted on August 26, 2026, but it does not reveal the complete order of the opening missions. Meanwhile, Rockstar Head of Development Rob Nelson told Famitsu that the story begins in the Leonida Keys. Official trailers connect the protagonists through Lucia’s call from prison and their meeting after her release.
The following sections contain spoilers for the published excerpt from the start of Lucia’s story.
What Lucia’s prologue shows
The Telegram post labeled Prologue 1 lists a runtime of 4 minutes and 34 seconds. In a surviving still, Lucia stands beside a prison window while PROLOGUE appears over the scene. Discussion of a prologue therefore rests on a specific published item, rather than just a guess based on how Rockstar usually starts its games.
Dot Esports, Beebom and Finnish outlet Respawn.fi described the recording. According to their accounts, the prison sequence is linked to a flashback set nine months earlier. Lucia has no money to pay at a diner and looks toward a check-cashing business. The waitress asks her to settle the bill. Lucia’s glance at the neighboring business suggests a robbery, but these few minutes do not show the entire chain of events from that thought to her arrest.
The action then returns to a women’s prison in Leonida. The diner scene takes place nine months before the prison sequence. That caption does not say how long Lucia has been incarcerated.
Rockstar’s official profile of Lucia Caminos provides broader context: she went to prison while fighting for her family, and luck helped her get out. It does not name a specific crime. Inferring one from a single glance through the diner’s window would go beyond the evidence.

What the player does in prison
According to Beebom, control passes to Lucia after the opening cinematic, and the player is prompted to approach a cellmate and talk to her. Among the first people Lucia meets is an inmate named Yolanda, whom she helps with a crossword. A prison officer then escorts Lucia to a common room with other inmates.
This is a quiet introduction to the controls: walk through a room, approach someone and start a conversation. A published still of the common room shows groups of inmates, tables and the escorting officer. The prison segment gives the player time to look around and meet people before the story calls for more demanding actions.

At the end of the excerpt, Lucia is taken toward a counselor’s office. Dot Esports notes that the conversation itself is absent from the recording; Respawn.fi connects this point with a scene familiar from the first trailer. The described excerpt does not show Lucia’s full release or an escape from prison. Calling this a complete walkthrough of the first mission would promise more than the footage contains.
Nor should her conversations with inmates be treated as proof of an extensive system of prison errands. We see a small part of the story’s opening, not the full set of tasks available to Lucia behind bars.
Where Jason and the Leonida Keys fit in
In his Famitsu interview, Rob Nelson explicitly named the Leonida Keys as the place where the story begins. This island region of the state is home to Jason’s first residence. His official background fits that starting point: after leaving the military, he ended up in the Keys and began working for local drug dealers.
There is already a concrete setting for that part of his life. Smuggler Brian Heder lets Jason stay in one of his houses for free in return for help with local disputes. That is how Rockstar explains what Jason is doing before the pair’s larger ventures. His background is covered in our separate Jason Duval profile.
Official trailers show how the protagonists are connected while Lucia is in custody. In the October 15 launch trailer, Jason takes her call from prison. In Trailer 2, he comes to collect Lucia and meets her at the prison gates. By the time she is released, they already know each other.
These scenes give us a specific connection between prison and Jason’s life, but they do not establish the order of playable missions. Nelson’s comment about the Keys does not identify the first playable protagonist either. We cannot confidently number GTA 6’s opening missions or promise exactly when both characters become available in the open world.
Why the apartment shootout is not proof of mission number one
The official An Extended Look opens with another sequence. Jason and Lucia carry out a job for Boobie Ike, arriving at a residential high-rise to collect merchandise. The meeting goes wrong, police arrive and the pair have to fight their way out. Game Informer described it as the first mission shown in the longer video.

One word matters here: the first mission shown is not necessarily the first mission in the campaign. The presentation itself is edited from different missions and open-world scenes.
Nelson called the high-rise sequence an early mission in Famitsu. He also explained why control is fixed on Jason in that sequence: his military training suits a situation in which he leads the pair through danger. The developers had previously allowed free switching between the protagonists, then changed that decision.
For players, that is a meaningful detail about the opening: both characters appearing together does not guarantee a free choice of whom to play. An early mission can assign their roles in advance. The full GTA 6 story premise covers much more than one escape from a building.
Where the plane rumor and Jason-first claim came from
Back in 2023, an anonymous Reddit user posted GTA VI Plot & Mechanics. The post claimed that the very first mission puts the player in control of Jason as he follows a plane carrying a Russian drug dealer. It went on to describe a drug theft, a chase and a search for cargo that fell into the ocean.
The original post bears a No Source label. Its author referred to an acquaintance who had worked on the game but provided no evidence of that access. The story resurfaced in 2025 discussions alongside reports from YouTuber LegacyKillaHD, as players compared older claims with Trailer 2.
That does not confirm the whole account. Even if a plane or a particular stunt matches later footage, that does not establish who was aboard, the mission’s objective or its position at the start of the game. The rumor has an identifiable origin, but it cannot support a walkthrough order.
Is there a complete first-mission walkthrough yet?
The material checked through October 26 lets us describe a specific prison excerpt and one early shared mission. There is still no confirmed, continuous walkthrough from starting a new game to finishing its first mission. The full objective list, reward, conditions for a top result and point when the open world becomes freely available have not been established.
The four-and-a-half-minute Prologue 1 copy is not the length of the entire prologue, either. It cuts off near the office, so it cannot tell us how much remains. An older rumor about a two-hour introduction has a different origin and is discussed alongside other GTA 6 playtime estimates.
