Vapid Ganado: Jason's pickup in GTA 6 and its Retro Build

Jason’s vehicle in GTA 6 is called the Vapid Ganado. It is a low two-door pickup with an open bed. In Rockstar’s description, it belongs to Jason and has seen better days. The Ganado Retro Build, a set of exclusive modifications, is included in the Ultimate Edition.

Two appearances can already be compared: the worn blue pickup in Jason’s scenes and the bright yellow vehicle with red stripes in the editions material. Their front ends, hoods and trim differ noticeably. Here is what the footage shows, what may have inspired the design and what we know about using the vehicle.

How to recognize the Ganado

At the start of the second trailer, the pickup is parked outside a green wooden house on stilts. Its rear and side are clearly visible. A long hood, short two-door cab and open bed form a low, elongated body. The blue paint is faded, rust shows along the edges, and VAPID is written across the tailgate.

This body style is known as a car-based pickup, or ute. Its proportions are closer to a passenger car with a bed than to a tall off-road pickup. That makes the Ganado recognizable even when its badge cannot be read.

In the same trailer, Jason drives the old vehicle, and the pickup appears behind him when he meets Lucia. Inside are worn trim and a simple window frame with a rectangular mirror. Around 11:27 in An Extended Look, the old blue version is seen from the front: two round headlights, a horizontal grille and a faded hood. Together, these scenes give a fairly complete picture of the vehicle driven by Jason Duval.

The first official artwork, showing Jason and Lucia sitting on a hood, offers another comparison. GTABase identifies that vehicle as the Ganado. Two round headlights are visible on the near side, along with more neatly finished bodywork.

Another Vapid appears near the house: Brian’s large modern pickup. Its tall four-door cab gives it very different proportions. The Drive identifies it as the Caracara and compares Jason’s low pickup with the Ford Ranchero. The scene shows two distinct vehicles from the same brand.

What the Ganado Retro Build changes

The Retro Build turns a battered work pickup into a bright vehicle styled after older muscle cars. In Rockstar’s official image, Jason sits behind the wheel of a yellow Ganado with a red stripe on the hood and red graphics along the sides.

We compare the old blue vehicle in the second trailer and An Extended Look with the Retro Build in that official image. The difference goes beyond paint:

Rockstar describes the Retro Build as modifications to Jason’s personal Ganado. It has not provided a full list of parts or explained how they are installed.

How to get the Retro Build

The Ganado Retro Build is included in the Ultimate Edition. Rockstar’s editions support article lists PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Standard Edition owners can buy an Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately through the PlayStation and Microsoft stores; owners of a physical copy must first redeem the game code.

Ultimate bonuses are spread across Jason and Lucia’s story and unlock as chapters progress. The support article does not name the chapter or mission that grants the Retro Build. It also does not explain whether the kit is installed on an existing Ganado or another vehicle is provided.

The nearby PS Store bonus list has a separate Jason’s Safehouse Vehicles entry: the Dinka Enduro motorcycle and Crest kayak. Its image also shows a yellow Ganado by the house. The pickup modifications are listed separately as the Retro Build.

The Ganado is one specific example of how a vehicle’s appearance can change. Our separate guide to car customization covers the other garages and general options.

Ford Ranchero, Creado and other names

Automotive writers see the 1970 Ford Ranchero as the Ganado’s main real-world inspiration. The most obvious similarity is its construction: a long car-like body, low cab and open rear bed. The Drive made that identification while analyzing the second trailer.

The GTABase listing also names the 1969 and 1970 Mercury Cougar. Autonews mentions the Ranchero but also sees features of the Holden HR Ute. These writers agree on the overall shape while suggesting different sources for individual details. Rockstar does not list real-world inspirations in its Ganado description.

GTABase labels the vehicle Ganado ‘70, categorizes it as Muscle and lists two seats. These are catalog details. The official bonus description uses the name Vapid Ganado.

Before that name was announced, Creado appeared in discussions. As the GTA Wiki account explained, the earlier name came from misreading the vehicle’s badge and was never confirmed. Old Creado posts therefore belong to the identification history of this same pickup. The word ute in English discussions describes its body style.

There is also a film theory. In a Reddit discussion, user Shot_Tomorrow_1067 suggested a reference to Danny Trejo’s pickup in Heat, citing the faded blue color and old work-vehicle look. Replies pointed out that the film featured a Chevrolet El Camino, while the Ganado looks more like a Ranchero. This remains a fan theory about visual resemblance; Rockstar has not confirmed it.

What we know about the Ganado as a personal vehicle

The official description confirms its connection to Jason, and scenes at home and on the road show it as part of his daily life. The material examined does not specify how players obtain the Ganado, whether through a purchase, a mission or another method.

Developer Rob discussed personal vehicles in a Famitsu interview. Players can register vehicles in their name. Three storage spaces are available initially, with additional garages expanding the fleet. Personal vehicles are also connected to weapon storage. The interview describes vehicle delivery to the player as well.

Two unanswered questions matter especially for the Ganado: how to recover this particular pickup if it is destroyed or lost, and whether the vehicle assigned to a protagonist can be replaced. The interview does not give a special recovery procedure for it. Our article on storing and calling a personal vehicle covers the general rules, registration and delivery.

Ganado specifications and open questions

The Ganado has a recognizable appearance and a Retro Build description, but no complete table of in-game specifications has been published. The statistics section of its GTABase entry contains no figures.

Based on the official descriptions and interview examined, these questions remained open on November 3, 2026:

  • engine, drivetrain, top speed, acceleration and handling;
  • price and whether another Ganado can be bought or found separately;
  • the exact point at which the Retro Build is obtained and how it is installed;
  • the full range of regular customization and exclusive parts;
  • recovery, replacement and storage of the pickup after story events.

GTABase classifies the Ganado as a new vehicle debuting in GTA 6. The Retro Build terms describe Jason and Lucia’s story. The terms reviewed do not announce its appearance in GTA Online.

Among the known cars in GTA 6, the Ganado stands out for its link to a protagonist and the two very different appearances shown. Its body can already be recognized, its naming history traced and its ordinary look compared with the Retro Build. Practical instructions for obtaining and recovering it depend on details that have yet to be published.
