GTA 6 homes: where Jason and Lucia live

Jason’s first home in the Keys, the city apartment, story moves and everyday activities. What we know about buying homes and the apartment’s real-world inspiration.

Jason’s first home is in the Leonida Keys and belongs to smuggler Brian Heder. As the story progresses, the protagonists will move between safehouses. Rockstar’s An Extended Look also shows a city apartment where they can take drinks from the fridge, switch on the lights and watch TV. According to TGG, who attended a private preview, residential safehouses cannot be bought: they unlock through the story.

Where is the GTA 6 protagonists’ home, who owns it and what can they do there? Rockstar’s character profiles, its An Extended Look video and an interview with Rockstar North development lead Rob Nelson provide the main answers. They present housing as part of Jason and Lucia’s lives, with routines, evenings together and moves between homes.

Where is Jason’s house in GTA 6, and who owns it?

Nelson told Famitsu that the story starts in the Leonida Keys, where Jason has his first place to live. Rockstar explains the arrangement: Brian lets Jason stay rent-free in one of his properties as long as Jason helps with local shakedowns and occasionally joins Brian’s wife Lori for sangria.

Jason lives there because of his work for Brian. Rockstar does not say he bought the house or owns it. We cover more of his background in our Jason profile.

The yard appears during the basketball scene in An Extended Look. Behind Jason are weathered wooden walls, an outside staircase and a railed landing above. The hoop is fixed beneath the raised part of the house. A car is parked nearby, and water is visible between the supports.

Fan reconstructions often place the house in Key Lento, comparing nearby small islands and a communications tower. Their comparisons explain the theory, but the precise point on a fan map is not an official address. The confirmed area is broader: the Leonida Keys.

The city apartment with flamingos and photos

In the domestic scene from An Extended Look, the pair are somewhere else. Dense city buildings stand outside the windows. Inside are pink curtains, flamingo wallpaper, a sofa with a striped throw, stuffed toys and photos. The kitchen, living room and bedroom sit close together, and a glass door opens onto a balcony.

The camera lingers on enough details to make the apartment feel lived in rather than an empty mission starting point. Photos and notes cover the fridge; books sit on tables; confetti remains on the floor. Lucia shows Jason a dress on a hanger, after which normal movement around the apartment resumes.

None of that establishes who owns the place. People call it “Lucia’s apartment” in discussions, but the wall color and Lucia’s presence do not prove she bought or rented it. Separately, Nelson told IGN about a safehouse in the press preview where the couple stays with another person. That remark, available in full in The Double Kill’s reprint, does not by itself identify the owner of the apartment in An Extended Look. The published footage leaves that question open.

Can you buy houses and apartments?

According to TGG’s account of Rockstar’s preview, residential safehouses cannot be purchased; they open up as the story advances. TGG relates this to Jason and Lucia being on the run and moving around: a permanent home with an address the police could visit would fit their story poorly.

Garages work differently. You can buy them to make more room for personal vehicles. Our garage guide covers storage, registering a stolen car and getting a vehicle back. Buying a garage does not, by itself, make apartments, villas or hotel rooms purchasable.

The Ultimate Edition description does list “Jason’s Safehouse Vehicles.” Those are extra vehicles at the safehouse: a Dinka Enduro motorcycle and a Crest kayak. That is no evidence that players must buy the expensive edition to get Jason’s first house.

A complete list of property available after the story has not been published. Information about story safehouses therefore cannot settle every question about possible large purchases elsewhere in the game.

What can you do at home?

In Rockstar’s video, Jason walks to the fridge, selects a drink and carries it into the living room. The interface still offers actions to drink it or put it down. The TV is on, first visible beside the furniture before the camera shows its screen close up. A switch displays an option to turn on the light.

TGG says Nelson demonstrated a character eating an apple, throwing the core into a bin and shaving at a mirror during the private preview. At home, characters can trim or shave their hair; a new hairstyle requires a trip to a salon. These actions give a safehouse a role as a small space for rest and personal care.

Famitsu’s journalists saw Jason climb under the covers beside a sleeping Lucia. Nelson says both protagonists have their own schedules: while the player controls one, the other continues with their own activities.

A mug must be put in an appropriate place; it cannot be dropped on the floor. This particular restriction is not a promise of dishwashing or mandatory cleaning throughout the home.

The shared apartment also gives the pair a place to spend time together. We explore how that relates to romance, joint activities and their bond in our Jason and Lucia relationship guide.

Does the home change, and can you choose furniture?

Nelson told Famitsu that interiors change to some extent with the story and that the characters move between safehouses as chapters change. He compared the sense of living in them to the camps in Red Dead Redemption 2.

That does not yet describe a freeform interior editor. Choosing furniture from a catalog, rebuilding rooms, adding another floor and renovating on demand have not been confirmed. Even a shot of work on a roof does not show whether renovation is a separate mechanic.

According to Nelson, the developers tried a system for restocking the fridge with groceries but later simplified it. You can have a snack at home; he did not say that players must shop regularly.

Have fans found the real apartment building?

There is an interesting fan theory about the city apartment. In August, prettyboycuh posted a video comparing the building in Rockstar’s footage with the former Belmar Condominium in Miami. The comparison shows similar projecting balconies, a pink-orange facade and neighboring high-rises.

The creator searched using street imagery. The building was no longer present in the current view, so older images were needed. SynthPotato and other community members shared the find. Some immediately objected to calling it “Lucia’s apartment”: the interior photos could belong to other people. Who lives there remains speculation.

The real Belmar stood at 419 Northeast 19th Street. A local property publication reported in August 2022 that all 13 units were sold for $12 million. The sale date does not establish a demolition date; gaming retellings often conflate the two events.

Rockstar has not named Belmar as an official inspiration. The comparison explains what fans found, but it does not establish the apartment’s owner, story role or precise location in the game’s Vice City. It has no bearing on Jason’s first home in the Keys. We cover more real places associated with Leonida in our GTA 6 locations comparison.

What remains unknown about safehouses?

There is no published complete list of residential safehouses, their unlock order or the rules for returning to earlier homes. A motel appearing in a trailer does not mean players will be able to rent a room, save there or store belongings.

There is also a theory about a boat serving as a mobile safehouse. The original Reddit discussion hopes for a detailed enough interior and the ability to sleep aboard. It provides no confirmation of a housing feature. The boats shown and known water activities are covered in our watercraft guide.

Nelson says there are protected areas around safehouses where cars cannot be stolen. That does not confirm that entering one automatically clears a wanted level or establish how manual saving works.
