When is GTA 6 coming to PC? Official status and the 2027 report
When might GTA 6 reach PC? The official status, GamesBeat’s Q1 2027 report, Rockstar’s earlier PC releases and remote play explained.

Rockstar has not announced a PC version of GTA 6 or given it a release date. GamesBeat reports that the studio plans to release the game on PC in the first quarter of 2027, from January through March, but Rockstar has not confirmed that window. The official November 19, 2026 date applies to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Is GTA 6 coming to PC?
Rockstar’s official materials currently list consoles only. There is therefore no confirmed Windows version yet. That does not mean GTA 6 will never reach PC: the absence of an announcement is not a decision against the platform.
There is a reason players expect a separate PC edition. GTA IV, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 all launched on consoles before receiving PC versions. Neither those precedents nor journalists’ reports can stand in for an announcement from Rockstar. For GTA 6, both the announcement date and the eventual PC launch date remain open questions.
PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are announced for the November 19 launch. Our guide to every announced GTA 6 platform covers the devices and ways to access the game.
Where did the early 2027 estimate come from?
On October 13, 2026, journalist Alexander Lee wrote in GamesBeat that Rockstar was planning a PC release for the first quarter of 2027. He cited four gaming-industry sources familiar with the studio’s plans. They asked not to be named to protect their business relationships. A Rockstar representative had not responded to the publication’s request for comment by the time the report was published.
This is a specific journalistic report about alleged plans, but readers cannot independently verify the anonymous sources’ accounts. Rockstar has not confirmed the report. The accurate wording is that according to GamesBeat, a PC launch is planned for January through March 2027.
The report gives a three-month window, not a particular month or day. If that window holds, PC would follow consoles by several months. It is too early to present that timing as settled. We examined the report separately in our GamesBeat PC release news story.
How long did earlier Rockstar PC releases take?
The earlier launches explain the expectation of a PC port, but their gaps vary considerably.
| Game | First console launch | First PC launch | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA IV | April 29, 2008, PS3 and Xbox 360 | December 2, 2008, North America | About seven months |
| GTA V | September 17, 2013, PS3 and Xbox 360 | April 14, 2015 | About nineteen months |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | October 26, 2018, PS4 and Xbox One | November 5, 2019 | Just over one year |
The starting point matters. To measure the wait after GTA V’s initial launch, its PC release must be compared with the original PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. Comparing it with a later console rerelease produces a different gap. For Red Dead Redemption 2, the table uses its first PC launch rather than its later arrival in another store.
These examples do not establish a rule that Rockstar always waits a year or that a PC version must arrive two years later. Applying any one gap to GTA 6 to calculate an exact date in 2027 or 2028 would be the calculator’s prediction, not an announced schedule.
Why does Rockstar start with consoles?
Strauss Zelnick, the head of Rockstar parent Take-Two, explained the choice in a May 2026 Bloomberg interview. As reported by VGC, the company first aims to satisfy its core console audience. Zelnick believes reaching other players would be harder without a successful release for that audience.
He also rejected the suggestion that a Sony marketing deal explained GTA 6’s console launch. It would therefore be misleading to attribute the missing PC edition at launch solely to such a deal: the publisher’s chief publicly offered another reason.
That explains an audience priority, not a PC development schedule. It contains neither a completion date for a PC port nor a promise to release one after a set number of months. It also does not establish a technical reason for the wait.
Steam, system requirements and regional release dates
Rockstar has not announced stores for a PC edition. There is no confirmed Steam date, Epic Games Store release or purchase arrangement through Rockstar Games Launcher. Where earlier games were sold does not, by itself, determine the stores for the next one.
No separate PC release date has been announced for Russia or Kazakhstan either. A Russian-language Rockstar Store page does not set such a date or prove that purchases will be available in a particular country. Those details will need to be checked against a real PC announcement and the stores’ offers.
Official PC system requirements and installation size have not been published. Console specifications, GTA V’s requirements and speculative PC builds cannot establish what this game will need. For the same reason, there is no verified guide to running an official PC version or basis to confirm that it will work on a particular laptop.
An offer for a “GTA 6 PC” key or download does not confirm an official Rockstar release. A fan project or demo does not become the official PC version because of its name. Check the date against the publisher’s announcement, not a file name or sales listing.
Can you play on a computer through a console?
A native PC port and streaming video from a console solve different problems. With a port, the game runs on the computer. With remote play, the computer receives a video stream while another device runs the game.
| Method | Where the game runs | What the computer does |
|---|---|---|
| Native PC version | On the computer | Runs the game itself; a GTA 6 version has not been announced |
| Remote Play | On your own console | Receives picture and sound over the network |
PlayStation’s GTA 6 page lists Remote Play support. Sony’s PS Remote Play app lets you control your own PS5 from a Windows computer or Mac. Once the game is released, this route requires your own PS5 with access to GTA 6, a compatible controller and a suitable network connection. It does not provide a PC copy or remove the need for a console.
Xbox also offers Remote Play: the computer receives a stream from your own console, where the game is installed. That is a separate feature from Xbox Cloud Gaming. The feature’s general availability does not yet confirm specific GTA 6 compatibility, which will need checking after launch.
Cloud play cannot simply be assumed either. In October, Xbox strategy executive Matthew Ball denied claims about exclusive GTA 6 streaming and cloud play on PC. We covered the Xbox statement about that rumor in detail. His statement does not rule out every possible cloud option on every device, but it provides no basis for treating Xbox Cloud Gaming as a confirmed way to play GTA 6 on a computer.
An Xbox name on a Windows app or handheld PC does not turn the device into an Xbox Series console. Until a separate PC version is announced, the branding does not change the supported-platform list.
What to look for in an official PC announcement
The next thing to watch for is Rockstar announcing a PC version and its timing. After that, its stores, supported operating systems, system requirements and preorder terms can be checked. Any date for Steam or an individual country would need to come from that new announcement.
Until then, January through March 2027 remains the window reported by GamesBeat. November 19, 2026 is confirmed for consoles. Keeping those two statuses separate matters even when search results place the dates side by side.
