What platforms is GTA 6 coming to? PS5, Xbox and other devices

Every announced GTA 6 platform: PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S. What we know about PS4, PC, Switch 2, disc-free consoles and remote play.

GTA 6 is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. That includes the standard PS5, its smaller Slim model, PS5 Pro, and both Xbox Series consoles, including Series S. There is no PS4 version, while PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch 2 are absent from the announced platform list. Rockstar’s website and the official PlayStation and Xbox pages confirm the list.

Which devices support GTA 6?

DeviceWhat is known about the release
PS5 and PS5 SlimThe PS5 version is supported; a disc drive is not required
PS5 ProSupported; the game is marked PS5 Pro Enhanced
Xbox Series XOfficially announced
Xbox Series SOfficially announced alongside Series X
PS4 and PS4 ProSony explicitly says the game is unavailable on PS4
Xbox One, One S and One XNo version has been announced
PC and MacNo standalone versions or release dates have been announced
Nintendo Switch and Switch 2No versions have been announced
Android and iPhoneNo mobile versions have been announced; remote access is a separate question

This list concerns devices that run an installed copy of the game. If a phone or laptop displays a GTA 6 stream from another console, that console is still running the game. The distinction matters especially when discussing handheld devices and cloud gaming.

Standard PS5, Slim and Pro: do you need a new model?

GTA 6 does not require an upgrade to PS5 Pro. Sony lists PS5 support and separately confirms the Pro release. The smaller PS5, commonly called Slim, remains part of the same console family: when announcing it, Sony said it packed PS5 capabilities into a smaller body. Digital Edition is also a PS5, although it has no built-in disc drive.

GTA 6 carries the PS5 Pro Enhanced label. This confirms enhancements for Pro but does not specify what they are: resolution, frame rate and available modes remain unclear. The label cannot be treated as a guarantee of 60 frames per second or a particular upscaling technology.

For the PlayStation version, Sony lists DualSense controller features: haptic feedback, adaptive trigger resistance and sound from the built-in speaker. It also mentions Tempest 3D Audio and fast SSD storage. These are officially presented features of the version. A promotional claim about the best experience on PS5 is not a like-for-like test across two consoles.

Xbox Series S is on the list too

The name Xbox Series X|S covers two consoles. Series S appears in Rockstar’s platform list and on the Xbox page, so its support is not a player guess. The smaller, less powerful model is part of the announced release.

Support does not mean Series S will display the same image as Series X. Establishing that would require specific graphics modes and a comparison of the finished versions. The official Xbox listing confirms platforms and date, but does not justify assigning identical settings to both models.

Xbox One S and Xbox Series S belong to different generations. The same goes for One X and Series X. GTA 6 is announced for the Series family; an S or X in the name of an older Xbox One does not change that.

What about PS4, PC and Switch 2?

The PS4 situation is clear: Sony explicitly says GTA 6 will not be available on PlayStation 4 consoles. The Pro model is still a PS4. A more powerful version of the older console does not become a PS5.

Rockstar and Xbox do not list a separate Xbox One version. The official materials we checked offer no detailed technical explanation for leaving out the older generation.

As of October 23, 2026, PC, Mac, Switch and Switch 2 are also absent from the announced list. That does not mean a port will never arrive. It does mean no release date or compatibility can be promised now. Timelines inferred from Rockstar’s past releases remain expectations.

The same applies to Steam Deck, ROG Ally and ROG Xbox Ally: they are handheld PCs. The Xbox name on the last device does not turn it into a Series X|S console. A PC version of GTA 6 has not been announced for them. There is no announced standalone Android or iOS game either.

Do you need a disc drive, and what is in the box?

GTA 6 has an important distribution detail: Rockstar describes the boxed edition as a digital download code with no disc. The usual rule that a boxed game requires a console with a disc drive therefore does not apply here. The code must be redeemed and the game downloaded.

For PS5 Digital Edition or Series S owners, the absence of an optical drive does not itself prevent the announced digital version from running. The code must, however, match the chosen platform. A PlayStation box does not provide an Xbox version, and an announcement for two platforms does not imply a single shared purchase.

Region matters too. Rockstar’s support information ties PlayStation code restrictions to account regions and groups of countries. The publisher says Xbox codes have no region lock. Code compatibility still does not guarantee that a particular store, payment method or promotion is available in Russia. A Russian-language game page does not confirm a sale in the Russian PS Store.

Standard and Ultimate Edition differ in what the purchase includes. An edition name does not add PS4, PC or any other platform missing from the list.

Phones, PlayStation Portal and the cloud

Sony marks GTA 6 as supporting Remote Play. In this mode, your own PS5 runs the game while video and controls travel between it and a client device. Sony describes controlling a PS5 remotely from Windows, Mac, mobile devices and PlayStation Portal. Connection quality affects the experience.

A PS4 can also act as a Remote Play client for your PS5: the PS5 runs the game, while the PS4 receives video and relays controls. Sony requires both consoles, the same PlayStation account and a fast internet connection. This does not create a standalone PS4 version of GTA 6.

You can therefore use a phone or Portal as another screen for your PS5. That does not create an installable GTA 6 version for iPhone, Android or Windows. Remote Play is also different from running the game on a cloud service’s server.

PlayStation Portal has a separate cloud mode for selected games. The existence of that feature does not establish that GTA 6 is in its catalog. The specific game must be supported; a device’s ability to receive a video stream is not enough.

Xbox comments caused further confusion. On October 7, Xbox strategy executive Matthew Ball clarified that GTA 6 streaming would not be exclusive and would not be available on PC. His post did not explain other scenarios. Sony’s confirmed Remote Play from your own PS5 to Windows is described above; the Xbox statement does not establish a ban on it. Nor can it be used to promise cloud access on other devices. We cover the context in our report on the Xbox statement.

Subscriptions and playing together

Sony describes GTA 6 as a single-player game and lists offline play. Those details do not confirm cross-play between PlayStation and Xbox. Support for both consoles does not establish shared saves across platforms either.

The month of GTA+ listed among digital preorder bonuses should not be confused with a GTA 6 license. It is a separate offer attached to the purchase. Likewise, an Xbox listing does not mean the new game is automatically included in Game Pass.

Can you already choose the best console for GTA 6?

To answer whether your console can run the game, the official list is enough: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Choosing where the image and performance will be best requires different evidence.

Rockstar explicitly says the August An Extended Look footage was captured from in-game scenes on PlayStation 5. That establishes the platform used for that particular presentation. A single video does not compare PS5, Pro, Series X and Series S under identical conditions or reveal every mode in the release game. We examine how the visuals changed between presentations in our GTA 6 graphics article.

If you already own a PS5 or Xbox Series console, its family is included in the announced release. A decision to replace it for GTA 6 should rest on specific differences confirmed for the finished game.
