Will GTA 6 have a first-person mode?
As of November 2, 2026, a full first-person mode that would let players complete GTA 6 from that perspective has not been confirmed in the Rockstar, Flow Games and RockstarINTEL material reviewed here. After visiting Rockstar, an August report by Flow Games said there would be no full mode, although that perspective would be available when aiming certain weapons. Footage leaked by Cyberleek in October showed views from inside a car and an eye-level camera outside it. How those examples relate to the finished game’s options remains unclear.
What was reported after the Rockstar demonstration
Flow Games’ Davy Jones visited Rockstar North and watched more than two hours of gameplay with Rob Nelson, the head of development and co-head of the studio. The outlet published its account on August 27, 2026. The camera passage appears in the original Flow Games report: the team focused its efforts on third-person animations, a full first-person mode was not planned, but some weapons allow aiming from that perspective.
This is the outlet’s account of its visit. The article does not give a separate verbatim quote from Nelson about the camera. It is therefore more accurate to attribute the claim to Flow Games and retain its limits: it concerns a full mode and aiming with some weapons. The report does not list those weapons or explain the switching controls.
Why do animations matter? In the official announcement of GTA V’s mode, Rockstar described separate work on aiming, cover, controls and thousands of new animations. Freely changing perspective affected what the character did, not just where the camera sat. That illustrates the scope of such a feature; the reasons for the decision in GTA 6 are known here only through the Flow Games account.
What the October footage showed
On October 8, 2026, Cyberleek footage titled Extended Leek circulated online. According to RockstarINTEL’s description, it runs for 24 minutes and 49 seconds. Writer Aaron Trueman describes several minutes of driving from inside different cars and a scene in which one of the protagonists, Jason, gets out of a vehicle while the camera remains in first person.
One preserved frame shows hands on the wheel, the dashboard and the road beyond the windshield. It gives a driver’s view of the street, with part of the view occupied by the car’s pillars, wheel and instruments.

The second frame is outside a vehicle, in an area with people and brightly painted, illuminated cars. The controlled character is not visible in front of the camera, and the viewpoint is at eye level. Subtitles and the objective Follow Yago remain at the bottom. There is no binocular overlay. The preserved image itself does not show the transition out of the car; RockstarINTEL describes that sequence.

This is why headlines about the mode conflict. Flow Games reported in August that there would be no full mode, while the October footage shows a first-person camera working inside and outside a car. The footage’s publication date does not establish when its build was made. Those two dates alone cannot show that Rockstar changed course and added a finished mode.
In a discussion of the footage, viewers suggest various explanations: an internal build, access to developer tools or a modification. Others raise objections based on the camera’s position and movement. The frames themselves do not show who enabled the camera or how.
How binoculars and aiming differ from a full mode
There is another example in the official An Extended Look video, at about 17:27. The view is through binoculars, with two eyepieces, markings and a ZOOM prompt. A man is visible through a window in the center. This scene demonstrates the use of a particular item. It leaves open whether players can walk freely from the same perspective.

The examples under discussion mean different things:
On a narrow screen, scroll the table horizontally.
| Situation | What is known | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Aiming certain weapons | First-person perspective was mentioned for some weapons | Flow Games’ report after its Rockstar visit |
| Looking through binoculars | The official video shows eyepieces, markings and zoom | An Extended Look, around 17:27 |
| View from inside a car | The October frame shows hands on the wheel and instruments | Preserved Extended Leek frame |
| View outside the car | A frame shows the area and an objective; a journalist describes the perspective remaining after the character gets out | Preserved frame and RockstarINTEL report |
A full mode like the one familiar from GTA V would let players switch perspective themselves during ordinary gameplay. Rockstar officially described that switching for GTA V and GTA Online. Views through a sight or binoculars serve a narrower purpose.
Are the camera-switching buttons known?
There is currently no confirmed instruction for freely switching the camera in GTA 6. The material reviewed here does not specify buttons for PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, field-of-view settings for such a mode, or separate conditions for accessing it. The official GTA 6 page lists both platforms but does not explain controls for this camera.
For players hoping to complete the whole game from their character’s viewpoint, Flow Games’ report of no full mode remains the main point of reference. The October footage adds an important example of the camera in use, while the choice of perspective in the finished game still needs confirmation. The sources reviewed here contain no plans to add it through an update, a separate VR version or another edition.
