GTA 6 mini-games: sports, races and things to do beyond the story
Mini-games and activities in GTA 6: basketball, pool, the gym, racing, kayaking, diving, and time together for Jason and Lucia. What has been shown and which rules remain unknown.

In GTA 6, you can take a break from the story for basketball, pool, mini-golf, workouts, racing, fishing, hunting and trips on the water. Rockstar showed the controls and interface for some activities in An Extended Look. Rob Nelson, a senior figure at Rockstar North, told journalists and creators invited to a presentation about others. Workouts affect character attributes and appearance, while the two protagonists, Jason and Lucia, can go to the gym, kayak, beach or zoo together. A complete list of activities, with their rules, rewards and every location on the map, has yet to be published.
What activities do we know about?
GTA 6’s mini-games and other activities work in different ways: the shooting range has targets and a timer, the gym calls for attention to movement and stamina, and you can simply walk along the beach.
| Activity | What we know |
|---|---|
| Basketball, pool, mini-golf | You can shoot hoops; pool and mini-golf are named as activities. Complete rules have not been disclosed for all of them |
| Gym, fights and shooting range | Barbell exercises, backyard wrestling and target-shooting challenges have been shown |
| Car and motorcycle races | Rivals, laps, current position and time are visible |
| Kayak, airboat and jet ski | An airboat ride, Lucia in a kayak and jet skis near the shore have been shown |
| Swimming, diving and parachuting | There is underwater exploration and a jump over the city; a journalist’s report also describes treasure hunting |
| Nature | Hunting for money, catch-and-release fishing and tracking special animals |
| Time around town | Clubs, television programs, shops and walks are known; the zoo is mentioned as a place to spend time together |
| Finding classic cars | Wyman’s car-restoration request is included in the Ultimate Edition description |
Basketball, pool and mini-golf
In the official presentation, Jason holds a basketball beneath a house on stilts. There is a hoop nearby and a shoot prompt on the screen. TGG, a creator invited to the presentation, describes aiming, holding R2 and timing the shot. For now, that supports basketball shooting at a hoop. This scene does not establish a full team game with a range of modes.

TGG also suggests that successful shots might improve Focus, an ability associated with slowing time. He himself leaves that connection open until the final game.
Nelson named pool among the available activities. Christopher Byrd’s report for The New York Times, also published by The Star, presents it as a way to earn money outside the main missions. That account does not set out the stakes, choice of opponents or exact rules of a game. The October leak showing pool and shops offers another glimpse, but does not establish the complete rules in the release version.
Mini-golf is also on TGG’s list of activities. It should be distinguished from the full-sized golf courses familiar from GTA V. Confirmation of one does not promise the other: the number of holes, tournaments and how a shared game works have not been explained in enough detail.
Workouts, wrestling and target shooting
TGG’s report mentions a gym membership. According to his account, however, you can finish the story without ever entering a gym. If you do work out, using a piece of equipment requires player input. In a Famitsu interview, Nelson explains that exercise uses stamina and that a set must be finished before it runs out. Moving too fast puts additional strain on the character: pace and control matter, rather than endlessly pressing one button.
Nelson describes a specific training cycle: three exercises, rest and repeated workouts over three days, after which character stats rise. Food and exercise also change the body. Our guide to fighting and workouts covers strength and combat abilities in more detail.

An Extended Look makes the difference between a sporting scene and an ordinary street fight clear: Jason is grabbed and thrown onto the floor of an improvised ring, with spectators seated around it. The scene shows backyard wrestling. It does not yet explain how to enter a tournament, what its rules are or whether all these moves can be used outside the ring.

The shooting range is shown differently. Lucia moves among the set pieces and fires at individual targets, while the interface counts remaining targets and time. After a hit, the target count changes and a time-bonus message appears. This is a clear accuracy and speed challenge. The footage does not establish where every range is or whether results affect Focus: in TGG’s account, the latter is speculation.

Racing: paved circuits, dirt and mud
Races in GTA 6 have a dedicated competitive interface. The car-racing scene shows the first of two laps, sixteen entrants, current position and a timer. The car takes a corner beside its rivals, and its placing changes during the race. That is enough to distinguish the event from simply driving fast on an ordinary road.

Motocross appears separately: several motorcycles ride along a dirt course, and the interface again shows laps and a position among the entrants. These races offer different driving conditions. A fenced paved circuit and a dusty road with slopes call for different vehicles and are visibly distinct in the footage.

Another kind of competition involves mud events. A mud race appears in our look at the unofficial Thrillbilly Mud Club footage. Separately, Byrd names monster-truck racing as one way to earn money in his report.
The number of tracks, betting rules, rewards, vehicle requirements and the structure of any racing career remain unknown. A daytime track and a nighttime drive in the video do not, by themselves, establish a complete system of legal and underground championships.
On the water, underwater discoveries and parachuting
Water activities extend beyond motorboats. The extended presentation shows a controllable airboat in the swamps, a group of jet skis near the shore and Lucia in a kayak. A second kayak moves ahead of her. These scenes have different rhythms, from a fast ride across the water to a quiet outing alongside someone else.

Nelson specifically cited kayaking as an example of time the couple can spend together. That makes the kayak more than just another means of transport: they can spend part of a day together and see the world from the water. Exact rental locations, prices and access conditions for each craft have not been given.

Diving appears in a flooded passage: a character in diving gear swims underwater, and the relevant meter is visible on the interface. Byrd also reports that underwater treasure hunting can earn money. Sunken planes and Bermuda were TGG’s own expectations, not discoveries he saw at the presentation.

In an official scene, Lucia parachutes beneath an orange canopy over the city. Jump locations and challenges have not been disclosed. The footage shows parachuting, without a bungee cord.

Hunting, fishing and collecting cars
Outdoor activities have different purposes. According to Nelson in TGG’s report, fishing is linked to relaxation, some story elements, collections and challenges. Fish are released after being caught; players are not expected to carry them around. Hunting is connected to earning money through someone Jason knows. Advising players to sell every fish they catch would therefore import the rules of another game into GTA 6.
Our separate guides to hunting and fishing cover known locations and the limits of what has been shown.
There is another reason to explore nature. A public Game Informer article describes tracking particular animals in the Rare, Discoverable and Legendary categories. The publication has not said which creatures players will seek. That wording does not establish a reward for every discovery or a need to kill the animal. But tracking special wildlife is known, alongside hunting for money and catching fish. Our GTA 6 animals guide examines the species shown and where the information comes from.
Collecting also appears in the official edition description. The Classic Car Collection involves finding abandoned classic cars and unfinished projects, then restoring them to their former condition at the request of a collector named Wyman.
There is an important condition here: this request is listed among the Ultimate Edition bonuses. It cannot be promised to every buyer of the standard edition. Equally, the description does not establish that all car hunting or every Wyman service requires an additional purchase. It confirms the named set of tasks.
Time together for Jason and Lucia
Nelson describes dates as free time spent together. The pair can go to the zoo, walk on the beach, kayak or work out together. They do not have to wait for a separate mission labeled “date”: the point is how they spend a day alongside each other.
“Together” does not mean two-player co-op, however. The game’s PlayStation Store listing specifies one player. In demonstrations, the player controls one protagonist while the other acts nearby; switching between Jason and Lucia depends on the situation and the story’s progress.
Looking after a partner is part of Jason and Lucia’s relationship system. How individual activities affect their closeness and the ending has not been revealed. There is no table of relationship points for each pastime, either.
Clubs, television and unexpected encounters
Not every form of leisure is a competition. The game has nightlife venues, and the official video shows people dancing and the protagonists among the guests. Strip clubs are among the known venues. A dance in a story scene does not establish a rhythm game, but visiting such places is part of city life.
Television programs and commercials play at home. The presentation shows a screen with fictional shows, while TGG describes programs created specifically for the game. Watching TV thus offers a reason to linger in an apartment. Playing on a home console or arcade machine has not been confirmed: an object shown on screen could remain part of the set dressing.
Walks can also involve taking photos, social media, radio and podcasts and ordinary conversations. According to TGG, some posts by non-player characters on social media can help you work out where a mentioned event is happening and go there. Our GTA 6 phone guide examines how the in-game smartphone works.
Some opportunities appear without choosing an activity in advance. A TROISCOULEURS journalist described passersby inviting the protagonists to jump off a bridge. Jason and Lucia jumped together, and their unattended car was stolen. The whole sequence matters: the world responds to the player’s participation, and a quiet drive takes an unexpected turn.
Shops, food, hair salons and changes to appearance add to daily life. That does not promise a full household simulator: Nelson explicitly said the developers tried having players replenish their refrigerator through shopping, then simplified the system.
Tennis, surfing and unconfirmed mini-games
Tennis is particularly instructive. In Byrd’s report, Nelson explained that you can pick up a racket and hit a ball. He did not promise a full tennis match like the one in GTA V. Both “tennis is fully back” and “you cannot do anything with a racket” miss an essential part of the answer.
After speaking with Nelson, Flow Games reports that surfing and skateboarding are absent from the game. The team considered skating but did not think it could bring the mechanic up to the required standard in time. The publication links the more limited selection of sports mini-games to that quality bar. This does not imply a promise to add those activities later.
Bowling, darts, poker and casino games have not received similarly reliable confirmation in the materials checked. They cannot be added to the list merely because they appeared in another game in the series or would suit a resort state. Using amusement rides has not been confirmed either.
The complete activity catalog, all prices and rewards, chapter-based unlock rules, every location and requirements for 100% completion are also unknown. Some access conditions are known, including gym membership and an edition bonus, but there is no complete list of free activities or how to unlock them. Nor can we yet promise that absolutely every pastime will remain available in the same form after the story ends.
