GTA 6 beaches: Ocean Beach, coastal life and things to do by the water

Which beaches appear in GTA 6, what Ocean Beach is like and what you can do by the sea: cycling, swimming, diving, jet skis and time together.

In GTA 6, the beach is a busy part of Vice City. People sunbathe, walk in groups, stand in the surf and fill rows of loungers. Rockstar explicitly names Ocean Beach, and its official gameplay presentation An Extended Look shows swimming, diving, jet skis and kayaks. Jason and Lucia, the game’s two protagonists, can spend time together on the coast. The leaked August clip Beach, published by Cyberleek, offers a ground-level look at Jason cycling across the sand. Rob Nelson, a development lead and one of the heads of Rockstar North, has also explained how outings and encounters fit into the protagonists’ lives.

Ocean Beach and Leonida’s other shores

Vice City is in the fictional state of Leonida. In its official description of the city, Rockstar singles out Ocean Beach for its dazzling white sand and pastel hotels. The beach sits beside a major city: apartment towers and hotels rise above it, with palms and streets beyond the sand. People use the sea, shore and urban surroundings as one connected place.

At about 13:06 in An Extended Look, another coastal name appears: Washington Beach. A road sign on the left points to Shorefront Avenue and Washington Beach; one on the right points to Seaview Boulevard and Ocean Beach. Both names therefore appear in the game’s road signs. The signs indicate exit directions, not district boundaries or separately marked stretches of sand.

The launch trailer gives an aerial view of the urban beach. Umbrellas and lifeguard towers run along the water. Some people are already in the sea while others remain on land, and an aircraft flies low over the beachgoers. The wide shot conveys the beach’s scale and layout, though it does not identify every part of the coastline.

Leonida extends beyond a single resort. Its other shores have different identities:

  • Leonida Keys is presented by Rockstar as a tropical archipelago with a carefree life that is far from luxurious. Its material includes a beach bar, boats and an underwater world. The coast here is tied to islands and life on the water.
  • Port Gellhorn is described as a forgotten coast once popular with tourists. Cheap motels, shuttered amusement parks and empty malls evoke a resort whose best days are behind it.

These are descriptions of different coastal areas, not a complete directory of every beach. Rockstar has yet to list the name of every cove and strip of sand. Comparisons with Miami and Florida help explain the world’s look, but its real-life inspirations should be considered separately from its in-game place names.

What people do on the beach

The beach scenes become more interesting when you look at individual groups. People stand along the water talking to each other. Some lie on towels, some settle into loungers, and others walk with friends. Activity is not confined to the strip directly in front of the protagonist: beachgoers can be seen farther down the coast and in the water.

Rockstar’s official beach screenshot contains several little scenes. A lifeguard watches through binoculars from a tower, with a quad bike parked nearby. A man walks with a metal detector. Two people toss a ball, sunbathers rest nearby, and an older couple crosses the sand. The figures differ in height, build, clothing and posture. Even amid the crowd, individual people stand out.

There is sport on the coast too. Around 00:39 in the second trailer, an outdoor weight-training area appears on the sand. The waterfront offers quiet relaxation as well as places to exercise, although the short scene does not explain how that particular area works in play.

These details make the shoreline worth watching. A passerby’s metal detector does not, by itself, establish a playable treasure-hunting activity on land. Nor does a ball in a beachgoer’s hands confirm a full beach-volleyball mini-game. What matters is which actions are actually shown for the player character.

The August clip shows an unevenly distributed crowd. There are gaps between groups, and open sand beside busier patches. People also stand in separate clusters near the water. Jason can observe those around him and ride between them, rather than pushing through a solid wall of characters.

The number of people in this clip cannot be treated as a precise technical comparison with the first trailer. The camera, part of the beach and lighting differ, and the build settings are unknown. The scene answers a more useful question: a large number of beachgoers is present while a controllable character moves through the area.

What Jason’s ride across the sand shows

The leaked Beach clip appeared on August 25, 2026. Rockstar released An Extended Look two days later. In Beach, Jason rides a bicycle, steers between beachgoers and then walks. The ground-level view reveals details that disappear in a picturesque panorama.

The bicycle leaves a rut and kicks up sand. Other marks are scattered across the surface, and a darker, damp strip runs beside the water. Jason rides over uneven beach terrain between loungers and umbrellas, brushing the edges of umbrellas in a narrow passage. During his own Rockstar demonstration, Etienne Rouillon of TROISCOULEURS also noticed sand on a character’s shoes, another small detail of contact with the shore.

The surf is easy to make out here too. Waves roll in, foam and recede, while some people stand in the water. Towels, bags and boards lie on the sand; canopies, towers and boats appear farther away. Together, these details make it feel as though Jason is riding through a place already in use by other people.

The clip has limits. It shows one gameplay sequence but does not explain how long each rut persists, whether waves can wash it away, or whether repeated rides change the terrain. The publication date does not establish when this build was made. Two minutes of footage cannot define every rule of the sand simulation.

How beachgoers react to the protagonist

Riding near people in Beach does not immediately trigger widespread panic. Many continue to relax and talk. That is a calm situation; other circumstances show a wider range of reactions.

In an IGN interview, Nelson said characters notice an overly intrusive observer. If the player stands close to a group and listens for too long, people may turn and address the protagonist. Following someone too closely may annoy them or make them move away. Nelson was describing a broader interaction system across GTA 6, not a special beach mode.

TGG reported a more tense example after visiting Rockstar. During a gunfight shown on Vice Beach, bystanders who could not safely run crouched behind police cars, walls and benches. Their response in that scene depended on the immediate danger: they looked for nearby cover.

Rouillon described another example. In his demonstration, Nelson controlled Jason, talked to people by the beach, and swam to a luxury villa where a barbecue was underway. The uninvited visitor met a hostile reception, a fight broke out, the police were called, and Jason had to flee. That sequence illustrates how free play near the coast can lead from a quiet walk to someone else’s party and fresh trouble. The details of the police and wanted system deserve their own examination.

Swimming, diving and trips on the water

The beach in GTA 6 is a place to walk, swim and spend time together. At about 17:23 in An Extended Look, Jason jumps from a wooden pier into the sea. Dolphins leap nearby, while pale sand and vegetation line the shore behind him. This short scene gives the coast a very different mood from the rows of loungers outside city hotels.

A few seconds earlier, Rockstar showed scuba diving. The character swims between underwater rock formations, and an O₂ air-supply meter is visible in the interface. The sea becomes a space to explore in its own right, with a different view, environment and way of moving. The shot does not reveal a complete list of underwater discoveries.

The same montage includes jet skis and kayaks. Jet skis move across water beside urban buildings, while Lucia paddles a kayak through a canal lined with docks and boats. Both sequences show character movement and a gameplay interface. That is stronger evidence than a boat merely appearing in the background of a beach shot. The canal is not identified as part of Ocean Beach, however, and these scenes do not explain rental terms, race routes or prices.

Surfing is not on this list. After speaking with Nelson, Flow Games reported that GTA 6 has no surfing or skateboarding mini-games. Nelson linked the selection of sports activities to the ability to bring each one up to the desired standard. Boards and waves in a shot should therefore not be read as a promise of a separate surfing mechanic.

Birds on the shore, dolphins by the pier and fish underwater offer more reasons to explore. Marine life appears in different locations, though: seeing an animal in one scene does not mean it will appear by every lifeguard tower. Our wider GTA 6 animals guide covers wildlife across Leonida, while the activities guide separates water recreation from other pastimes.

Jason and Lucia spend time together

Rockstar has shown a quieter kind of break too. Around 18:29 in An Extended Look, Jason and Lucia lie on neighboring loungers beneath a yellow umbrella. People walk around them, a dog runs past, and an aircraft advertising the Nine1Nine club flies over the sea. The protagonists relax amid the same beach life seen from other angles.

The beach also gives the two protagonists somewhere to spend time together without a fixed plan. According to Nelson, as reported by TGG after the demonstration, dates are dynamic: players decide how the pair spend the day. They can walk on the beach, go kayaking or choose another activity. An outing like this does not need the fixed dating structure familiar from San Andreas and GTA 4.

That gives a simple walk by the sea a role in the characters’ lives. They spend time close to each other and maintain their relationship outside story missions. In the IGN interview, Nelson also connected exploration and activities together with the development of that relationship. The beach itself does not become a required romance mission with a predetermined ending.

Light, weather and life by the water

Beach shows long shadows and a low sun. Some visitors remain by the sea in that light. One sequence is not enough to establish the beach’s daily schedule: it cannot tell us when the biggest crowd arrives, where people go afterward, or how their numbers change at night.

There is direct information about Leonida’s broader weather. In a September Game Informer article, Rockstar described localized storms: one area can be dry while rain falls in the distance. Puddles and wet surfaces remain after a downpour, and a rainbow can appear in suitable light. Leonida also has tropical storms and hurricanes.

For the coast, that means the sunny view is only part of the world’s character. The particular effects on beachgoers have not been detailed: whether they leave the sand ahead of a storm, whether water activities close, or whether dangerous currents occur. Those rules require separate evidence and cannot be inferred simply from the presence of hurricanes.

The beach, nudist resort and Vice Beach: keeping them distinct

The August 25 beach clip is sometimes confused with a nudist area shown the previous day. They are separate scenes. In one, Jason is among visitors beside a pool; in the other, he rides along an ordinary seashore. Nudist locations and the story of their possible inspiration are covered separately.

The name Vice Beach also causes confusion. It appears in accounts of demonstrations, including TGG’s. At the same time, Vice Beach appears in a real-world GTA 6 advertising campaign in Miami Beach. Photos of decorated hotels and beach furniture show the real city. They do not establish the boundaries or name of an in-game area beside Ocean Beach.

Rockstar has not published a complete map of beaches with names, entrances, missions and every activity. What has been shown already offers several ways to take an interest in the coast: watch the crowds on an urban beach, ride a bicycle across the sand, swim from a pier, explore underwater, or simply walk beside the sea with a companion.
